The details are here! Our next workshop with Shanta on Saturday, April 12th will be all about chai and chutney. Come learn how to make these two flavorful spiced delights + enjoy samples and snacks during an interactive demonstration in OA’s meeting room. Each participant will leave with their own jar of chutney and printed recipes for guidance and inspiration!

Space is limited and pre-paid registration ($15per person) is required! Come to OA and pay at the register to secure your spot ☕️🫙🌶️🍋‍🟩🧄🌿

We had a great workshop with Shanta, one of OA’s founding workers, a couple weeks ago learning to make a Southern Indian feast 🌶️🫚🧄🍛 featuring Veggie Sambar, Quinoa-Rice pilaf, Papadams, various fresh chutneys, and Shanta’s special Masala Chai! Cooking (and eating) with community is what it’s all about!

There will be 3 more workshops here at OA with Shanta this year, if you missed this one:

Our Eco-Upgrades to our Chill cooler (courtesy of

Our Eco-Upgrades to our Chill cooler (courtesy of a grant from @sfenvironment!) are well underway! You’ll notice some disruption in the store with the arrangement of coolers and some temporary coolers - ALL products are still available and we are fully stocked on eggs and milks! 🥚🥛🌿🐮

The cooler work being done includes much-needed cleaning and parts replacements on our trusty Chill cooler to increase its energy efficiency, plus we’re getting new coolant that’s the most environmentally-sound available at this time 🌎

Work is scheduled to finish by Friday morning and we will work quickly to return the store to its normal arrangement. Thanks for your patience as we get this project completed!#otheravenues #outersunset #cooperative #coop #shopsmall

Raise your hand (preferably clutching as many bars of chocolate as you can hold!) if you’ve ever been transfixed by our chocolate wall while heading to the register! ✋✋✋
Next Thursday the 13th we’ll be hosting a lil’ CHOCOLATE TASTING from our selection to help you out of your decision paralysis and to offer a little sweetness for your week 💕 we’ll focus on bars that are sourced ethically and talk a bit about chocolate production.
So, come by! The tasting table will be set up in the center of the store from 12pm-2pm and we’ll have vegan, GF, refined-sugar-free options available to try!

Citrus season has started with an explosion of flavor at the Co-op! We have tons of tangerines and clementines in right now. Here’s a brief guide to the varieties 🍊👇

Daisy Tangerines - juicy, flavorful, and rich with a balanced sweet-tart taste and moderate acidity. These are an uncommon hybrid to find in stores! Peel difficulty: 3/5. Contains some seeds

Fairchild tangerines - sweet and subtly tangy with low acidity and firm flesh. Peel difficulty:3/5. Contains seeds

Lee Nova tangerines - explosively juicy with a rich sweet flavor. Peel difficulty: 2/5. Contains some seeds

Satsuma - juicy and flavorfully sweet-tart, very balanced and snackable! Peel difficulty: 1/5. Seedless

Clementine tangerine - refreshing tang with a slightly nuanced bitterness underlying the sweetness, and plentiful juice in delicate flesh. Great for snacking! Peel difficulty: 2/5. Seedless

Kishu mandarins - these darling little jewels (pictured) are sweet, juicy, and delicate with floral notes and mild acidity. The flavor develops further as the season goes on (we are out of stock of these at the moment but they should be back soon!!) peel difficulty: 1/5. Seedless

Orlando Tangelos - mildly sweet, low acidity, juicy, and floral. Peel difficulty: 4/5. Contains seeds

Mandarinquat - a cross between a mandarin and a kumquat, you can eat the skin as well! Super tart-sweet with a bright bursting flavor. Contains many seeds

We also have Navel and Cara Cara oranges, pomelos, Meyer lemons, sweet limes, Buddha’s Hands, fresh Yuzu! and more interesting varieties coming in daily 🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋
